The Praxis Difference

At Praxis we believe that each person has the capacity to change the world through innovation and creative thinking and that capacity is multiplied many times over when students from around the world live and work together.

PILLARS OF EDUCATION

Global Citizenry: We believe that the next generation must be globally educated and the best way to do that is to live, learn and work in an international environment.

Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship is really about thinking creatively and critically; about being a problem solver and being able to act with the tools of enterprise. We believe that above all, entrepreneurship is a fundamental way to develop and implement new ideas.

Environmental Sustainability: We believe that the earth is our home and needs to be respected and maintained and enhanced. We will learn how to do this together with ideas from around the world. And more importantly, we will put our leaning into practice, because knowledge is only useful when you use it.

Technology: We believe that while the future world will be a technological one, technology is only a tool, but it can create positive change by connecting people and ideas from many cultures, disciplines, and philosophies. Learning how to use it responsibly and creatively is critical for change.

 

EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

Multiple learning styles: Every person learns differently so we help people determine the best approach for themselves through initial and ongoing assessments.
Experiential learning: Learning by doing is one of the most effective ways to discover and retain knowledge so we start from that premise.

Experimentation: Discovery is essential to developing thinking capacity. We encourage learners to come up with ideas, research and experiment. This is where new knowledge is discovered. Experiments are never failures just because you didn't get the result you expected.

Critical thinking: Being able to question what we learn is the basis of innovation. Learners are asked to question what they learn, and answer their own questions through research, discussion, experimentation and analysis. They are asked to come up with problems to solve and solutions to the problems.

Group and individual: Learning is achieved through self reflection and group discussion. Both are used in order to develop internal and external communication skills.

Practitioner supported: We believe that learning from people who are practicing professionals in their field is an excellent way to connect theory to reality - these are our Praxis Points. We connect and help learners make their own connections to engineers, architects, entrepreneurs and others so that they start to learn what is needed in the world and begin building bridges with potential mentors.

Qualified and experienced facilitators: We work with people that are the best fit for our learning model. They are skilled in working with multiple learning styles and in communicating with young people. They are supportive of learner centred approaches and are lifelong learners themselves.
